Realistic Expectations

Too many times I see RFQ's that begin with "build a site just like majorsite.com, only better ..." with a tiny budget (less than 5 figures). This is a fantasy, people. No such thing exists. Just think for a second. MajorSite.com probably had 6- to 8-figure financial backing and spent a year or more developing the site. (Do your homework and read up on the site's creators.) How can anyone (no matter how good) produce a "better" site for one thousandth of the originator's cost? It's simply not possible.

But that's not even the worst of it. You started out with an idea that is not yours. It's already been done, so it's not original. Worst yet, you could very easily be sued for it, especially when your RFQ is used as evidence against you. So, people, if you don't have a truly original idea, then just pack it up until you do. It will save you a lot of money and grief.
